Welcome Benji Mensah

Real Bedford are delighted to announce the signing of defender Benji Mensah.

Comfortable at right-back and right wing-back, Mensah brings pace, an appetite for getting forward and experience of National League football following a season with Peterborough Sports.

Mensah spent his formative years at Aston Villa, progressing from the Under-11s to the Under-16s before joining Peterborough United as a scholar and earning his first professional contract around his 18th birthday.

He made six senior appearances for Posh, but injuries disrupted his progress before his departure in summer 2023.

Spells with St Ives Town, St Albans City and Rushall Olympic followed, including a return to St Ives before his move to Peterborough Sports. Those experiences have given the former academy defender a grounding in senior non-league football as he looks to take the next step with the Pirates. 

For Mensah, the ambition at Real Bedford and the opportunity to work under Rob Sinclair were central to his decision to join.

“Since coming on board with Ugo at Premier Footballers International, I’ve had a few offers from clubs in Steps 2 and 3,” he said. “But I chose Real Bedford because our ambitions and aspirations align and to work under a great manager."

“Now that I’m injury-free, I just want to get back to playing regularly and kicking back on.”

With a fresh opportunity ahead, Mensah is eager to meet the supporters and play his part.

“I’m buzzing to be at such a great club and I can’t wait to get started, meet the fans and help the team achieve their goals. Let’s go Pirates!”
