Grace Garrad Joins the Pirates on Loan
Real Bedford Women are delighted to announce that defender Grace Garrad has joined the Pirates on a short-term loan from Watford.
The defender joins Charlie Bill’s squad from the WSL 2 side, adding quality, versatility and experience ahead of an important period of the campaign. Comfortable at centre-back and left-back, Grace brings a background in senior football across England and Norway, alongside international experience with England’s youth teams.
Grace began her career at Arsenal before joining West Ham United in the summer of 2021. She made four first-team appearances during her first season with the Hammers, developing in an environment alongside established internationals and gaining experience at Women’s Super League level.
In August 2022, she joined Watford on dual-registration terms, combining regular competitive football with continued training at West Ham. Operating at both left-back and centre-back, she quickly became an important part of the Hornets’ side.
Her first spell at Watford also demonstrated her ability to contribute going forward. Alongside a goal in a 6-0 victory over Cheltenham Town, Grace scored a memorable winner against AFC Wimbledon in the FA Women’s National League Cup, striking from 30 yards to settle the tie.
Grace then moved to Norwegian club Stabæk before returning to England to play for Lewes in the Women’s Championship (now WSL 2) during the 2023/24 season. She then joined Ipswich Town in July 2024, adding further experience of the Southern Premier Division to her career.
Grace has also represented England at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level, gaining international experience alongside her club development.
Now arriving on loan at Real Bedford from Watford, she will provide additional defensive options for the Pirates, with Charlie confident that her qualities will complement the squad and suit the team’s approach.
Charlie Bill said:
“Grace is a top player, and we had no hesitation in bringing her in. Signing a player on loan from a WSL 2 club, we know the quality she brings. She gives us additional balance defensively and will fit our way of playing superbly. We can’t wait to start working with her.”
Grace said:
"I’m buzzing to be here! Personally, I’m really looking forward to getting back to playing regularly. I’m hoping to bring my title-winning experience to help strengthen the team and push us up the table. On the pitch, you can expect composure on the ball and a strong desire to defend. I can’t wait to get started!"
Welcome to the Pirates, Grace.
