Real Bedford Women Deliver Statement Six-Goal Victory

By Louie Truman

Izzy Lane’s hat-trick led the way as the Pirates got back to winning ways with a 6-0 win over Billericay Town at home.

The Pirates started the game positively, and they had a chance in the seventh minute, but the ball went over the crossbar from Mehmet. Just minutes later, Real Bedford looked dangerous from a corner, but Lane couldn’t finish the chance. Charlie Bill’s side continued to control the game; the Pirates had another opportunity on goal, but nobody could convert.

Real Bedford scored the opener; it was a great attack as Mehmet’s shot was saved, but it came to Lane, who scored her first goal for the Pirates. Only two minutes later, Breon Grant scored the second. She went past the keeper and found the back of the net. The first half finished 2-0 to the Pirates.

Second Half

Early after the break, Izzy Lane scored her second of the game; Lane was there to tap in a poor pass back from the Billericay defence.

In the 71st minute, Charlie Bill made three substitutions with 2 making their Pirate debut's, Teagan Scarlett, Marcie O’Meara and Issy Bryant all coming on. Issy Bryant scored the fourth; it was a great counter as Lane played a perfect ball to Bryant, who finished her chance well.

New signing Teagan Scarlett had a positive impact from the bench. She created a great opportunity in the box, but nobody could finish it off. The Pirates continued to dominate, and a corner from Bensted was deflected in by a Billericay defender. Izzy Lane later got her hat-trick with a rocket of a finish, which made it 6-0. It was a statement performance from Real Bedford, securing an emphatic 6–0 win.

In his post-match interview, Bill said:

“We said at the start pre-game, we felt that we left some points out there in previous weeks, so to have an afternoon when we scored six goals and see the attacking unit have a real impact, we keep another clean sheet, it’s certainly a really good afternoon of work.”
