Real Bedford secure convincing win over Stamford

By Louie Truman

Real Bedford got back to winning ways and secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Stamford, with goals from Josh Allen, Josh Setchell and Ben Weyman.

Real Bedford had a positive start to the game, winning multiple corners, but they unfortunately didn’t lead to anything. Just moments later, Ben Stevens and Conor Tee linked up well down the left to cause problems for Stamford. Conor Tee had two efforts on goal which were kept out.

In the 19th minute, Gray released Allen who had a shot which was blocked. Just one minute later, Setchell layed off Allen, but the pass went to the goalkeeper. On the other hand, Stamford had a better spell of play; Davies made an important block in the box.

Josh Allen opened the scoring just before half-time; Allen picked the ball up in the box and his shot which took a slight deflection found the bottom corner. The Pirates went into the break ahead.

Second Half

The visitors had a great start to the second-half, King was forced into an early save and the Daniels had a shot which went just over. Stamford continued to create chances, but the Pirates managed to stay solid at the back.

Rob Sinclair made his first changes with Daniel Efobi coming on for his debut replacing Josh Allen, and Jack Morrell coming off for Harry Gray.

Josh Setchell doubled the lead; it was chaos in the box, and Setchell fired the ball into the back of the net. Despite protests from the goalkeeper, the referee confirmed the second goal.

Ben Weyman got the third; Setchell’s run was perfect, but his shot was saved before it fell into the path of Weyman who put the game to bed, and scored his first goal for the Pirates. After three minutes of stoppage time, the Pirates secured an impressive 3-0 home win.

In his post-match interview, Sinclair said:

“It was a superb performance from start to finish to be fair, in terms of our attacking play in the first half we deserved more than the one goal lead. It could have easily been three or four and in the second half for a 15-minute period we had to defend, which we did really well.”
