PIRATES HOLD ON AFTER COMMANDING FIRST-HALF DISPLAY
A dominant first-half display saw Real Bedford take control, with a Josh Allen brace and a stunning Conor Tee strike putting the Pirates firmly in command. Leighton Town fought back in a chaotic second half, scoring twice but also seeing red, as Real Bedford held on to secure a 3-2 victory.
Leighton Town made a positive start to the fixture and threatened early on, heading wide following a quick counterattack. However, it was Real Bedford who broke the deadlock in the 19th minute. An excellent passage of play opened up the Leighton defence before Josh Allen was on hand to tap home and give the Pirates the lead. Just moments later, Ben Stevens was unfortunate not to double the advantage.
Real Bedford continued to apply the pressure, with Leighton coming close to turning the ball into their own net in the 25th minute. Shortly afterwards, Rob Sinclair was forced into his first change of the evening due to injury, with Jack Morrell replacing Shaheim Ward.
The Pirates soon doubled their advantage in spectacular fashion through Conor Tee. Cutting inside, Tee unleashed a superb strike that crashed off both posts before finding the back of the net. Real Bedford’s dominant spell continued as Allen grabbed his second of the evening. His initial effort was saved, but the forward reacted quickest to the rebound and made no mistake from close range.
The half-time whistle brought an excellent opening 45 minutes to an end, with Real Bedford heading into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Second half
Leighton came out after the restart looking for a route back into the contest, forcing King into an excellent save as they pushed forward. At the other end, Real Bedford went in search of a fourth, with Collins trying his luck from distance. His effort was deflected behind for a corner, before the Pirates went close again following a quick attack.
In the 73rd minute, Leighton finally found a breakthrough as Stefan Vukoje pulled one back for the visitors. Moments later, the deficit was reduced to just one when Kyal Williams finished his opportunity well to make it 3-2 and set up a tense final 10 minutes. In the 88th minute King makes a crucial save to keep the Pirates ahead.
Deep into stoppage time, Simmons produced a crucial challenge inside the penalty area to halt a dangerous Leighton shot. Stevens then had a huge opportunity to restore the Pirates’ two-goal cushion but was unfortunate not to convert. The visitors were then subsequently reduced to ten men after captain Kyal Williams was shown a second yellow card for dissent.
Despite a nervy conclusion, the Pirates held firm to secure all three points with a 3-2 victory, having laid the foundations with a dominant first-half display.
