Real Bedford Women Overcome Swindon in 2–1 Victory
Real Bedford Women secured an impressive 2–1 victory over Swindon, with Lily Whitelock and Zyn Delglyn finding the back of the net for the Pirates.
Real Bedford made a positive start to the fixture, with Lily Whitelock opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Whitelock found space before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom-right corner to give the Pirates an early advantage.
Bedford continued to threaten, with Byrom making dangerous runs down the left as they searched for a second. The Pirates remained on top, and Mehmet came close to doubling the lead when her effort looked destined for the net, only for the Swindon goalkeeper to make an excellent save with her foot.
However, Swindon found a route back into the contest from the penalty spot. Annie Colston stepped up and converted to bring the visitors level. Moments later, Swindon nearly completed a quick turnaround when St Clair struck the post, but the sides went into the break level at 1–1.
Second half
Three minutes into the second half, Real Bedford won a corner as they looked to regain control. Following the set-piece, Drè tried her luck from distance, but her effort was blocked before Mehmet followed up and rattled the crossbar. Swindon also went close after a good spell of possession, with Bedwell striking the post.
In the 70th minute, Charlie Bill made his first change of the afternoon, introducing Amber Gaylor in place of Sophie McLean. The Pirates continued to create opportunities and eventually found the breakthrough through Zynia Delglyn, who forced the ball home, squeezing it past the goalkeeper to restore the Pirates' lead.
The visitors began to apply more pressure in search of another equaliser, but Meale produced an important save following a Swindon corner to preserve the advantage. Real Bedford then came close to adding a third, only to be denied by a brilliant save from the Swindon goalkeeper.
The Pirates held firm in the closing stages to secure a fantastic 2-1 home victory.
