The Pirates threatened inside three minutes when Jack Morrell headed narrowly off target from a free-kick. Rushall then had penalty appeals waved away, providing an early reminder that the visitors carried a threat of their own.
Rushall were forced into a change after 17 minutes, with Charlie Lutz replacing Jordaan Brown, while Real Bedford had to defend a succession of attacks before beginning to create more opportunities.
Ponticelli thought he had broken the deadlock in the 26th minute, producing a neat flicked finish, only for the offside flag to cut short the celebrations. Ben Stevens then worked room for a shot by cutting inside twice, but his effort was saved. Archie Jones received a yellow card a minute later.
The Pirates continued to combine well going forward. A flowing move ended with Tee’s delivery just beyond its intended target, before Sam Cartwright regained possession and released Tee for a shot that was kept out in the 36th minute.
There was important work at the other end, too. Craig King tipped a header over the crossbar as Rushall threatened to take the lead, while the visitors later saw a Lycett effort deflected narrowly wide. In between those chances, Josh Setchell broke into the box but Real Bedford could not apply the finishing touch.
Ponticelli headed into Taylor’s hands shortly before the interval, and Richardson fired wide in the third minute of added time as an eventful first half finished level.
Second half
King was called into action almost immediately after the restart, saving Lewis Corbett’s effort from the edge of the penalty area. Real Bedford then had the ball in the net when Rushall turned it into their own goal, but another offside flag kept the score at 0-0.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 50th minute, and it owed much to Ponticelli’s determination and composure. The striker won a flick-on, chased his own header and rounded the goalkeeper before finishing to put the Pirates ahead.
Just two minutes later, Richardson doubled the advantage. The captain rose highest inside the penalty area and headed home, giving Real Bedford a commanding lead after two quick goals transformed the contest.
The Pirates kept pushing. Jones won a corner with good work down the flank, and Cartwright came close to adding a third when his header struck the crossbar in the 57th minute. Jones then supplied Ponticelli, whose effort went inches wide.
Ponticelli soon made amends. Tee broke free and unselfishly squared for the striker to score his second, completing a clinical spell that put Real Bedford firmly in control.
There were further chances to extend the lead, with both Setchell and Ponticelli having efforts saved in the 69th minute.
Rob Sinclair subsequently introduced fresh legs, sending on Jack Davies for Jones after 70 minutes and Josh Allen for two-goal Ponticelli five minutes later. Kyran Wiltshire continued to contribute, beating two opponents before winning a foul, while Tee saw a cross deflected wide.
Callum Kane replaced Tee in the 81st minute, CJ Kiala came on for Setchell in the 85th, and Billy Burrell replaced Wiltshire four minutes later.
Real Bedford remained alert defensively through five minutes of added time, with Sam Collins making an important block inside the penalty area to help preserve the clean sheet.
A strong second-half performance ultimately settled the afternoon, combining clinical finishing with the defensive work required to secure a convincing victory for the Pirates.
Next up for The Pirates is a trip to Leiston on Tuesday 10th November.
