2026/27 So Far

Real Bedford made it two wins from two with an impressive 2-0 victory away at Peterborough Sports on Tuesday evening, following up the opening-day success over Leamington.

Banbury United have also enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign. The Puritans opened with a goalless draw away at Bishop’s Stortford before claiming a 2-1 home victory over Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday night, setting up an intriguing early-season contest between two in-form sides.

Opposition Focus

Founded in 1931, Banbury United are one of the Southern League’s most established clubs. Nicknamed The Puritans, they play their home matches at the Spencer Stadium and have a proud history in non-league football.

The Puritans won the division title in 2021/22 to earn promotion to the National League North, spending two seasons at Step 2 before returning to the Southern League. They have also enjoyed a number of memorable FA Cup campaigns, reaching the First Round Proper on multiple occasions.

Real Bedford completed the league double over Banbury United last season, winning both meetings in the Southern League Premier Central.

The Pirates claimed a 4-1 victory at the Spencer Stadium in September before following it up with a 3-1 home win at The Ledger Stadium in November.

Managed by former professional defender Kelvin Langmead, Banbury have assembled a competitive squad, including ex-Pirate Joey Evans, and have started the new season unbeaten, making Saturday’s fixture another stern early test for The Pirates.
