Allen at the Double as Pirates Maintain Perfect Start
Real Bedford maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign with a 2-0 win over Peterborough Sports, making it two victories from their opening two matches.
Under the lights at Lincoln Road; the Pirates had a positive start. Josh Allen advanced well up the pitch, although his first effort was denied. Following his chance, Richardson had to make an important block at the other end of the pitch to deny Peterborough from taking the lead.
In the 13th minute, Miller had a good chance for Peterborough, bending a shot from the edge of the area just beyond the far post.
Josh Allen continued to look dangerous as he had a shot which led to a corner. However, the Pirates were unable to capitalise from the corner. In the 28th minute, Peterborough had a good opportunity. Vince took a shot from outside the box, but King did well to make the save.
Moments later, Josh Allen found the back of the net to give Real Bedford the lead. Ponticelli won possession back before finding Allen, who went around the goalkeeper and smashed the ball into an empty net to put Real Bedford 1-0 ahead.
After Collins had raced back to make an important clearance, Real Bedford played their way out from the back with an excellent team move, which ended with Tee’s shot going just wide. Just before half-time, Josh Allen scored his second of the game.
After King dealt with the danger at the back, Real Bedford worked the ball forward through several players before Allen applied a quality finish for his second of the game. The Pirates went into the break 2-0 up.
Second half
Just after half-time, Stevens had a good opportunity which went narrowly over, before Allen was unable to convert another chance moments later. In the 72nd minute, Collins produced an excellent bit of defending to prevent the host from finding the back of the net.
Rob Sinclair made his first change of the match with Jack Morrell coming onto replace CJ Kiala. Ponticelli sent Tee through, but his effort was saved, before Richardson produced an excellent last-man challenge to stop a dangerous attack at the other end. In stoppage time, the Turbines hit the post before somehow missing an open goal.
It finished a convincing 2-0 to Real Bedford, with the Pirates securing another three points.
In his post-match interview, Sinclair said:
“I thought for an away performance it was superb. Obviously, the game was a little bit panicky to start in the first 20-25 minutes. It was kind of what Peterborough wanted, and they made it that way, but once we got that goal, we completely settled down.”
