The Pirates begin pre-season with consecutive Camden Town victories

Real Bedford Women started pre-season with consecutive victories against two Camden Town Women’s teams.

The Pirates beat the first Camden Town XI 9-0 before winning 3-0 against a different lineup in the second period. Both matches lasted 40 minutes and were played behind closed doors.

Camden Town Women First XI 0-9 Real Bedford Women

In their first appearance since late April, Charlie Bill’s side started quickly in the first half, with a trialist putting the Pirates ahead after only five minutes.

Seven minutes later, a perfectly weighted ball from Amber Gaylor found Abbie Bensted, whose effort found the top corner to double the lead.

The trialist, who wore the number seven shirt, scored her second of the afternoon shortly after, as she fired a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Captain Gemma Biggadike’s pinpoint deliveries from set pieces caused the hosts problems throughout, and her corner in the 19th minute was headed home by Gaylor.

The lead became six midway through the first half with two goals in quick succession. First, the trialist completed her hat-trick in the 21st minute, before Gaylor doubled her tally four minutes later with a driven left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

The Pirates’ pressure didn’t relent, though, with Nicola Puddick getting on the scoresheet two minutes later following a mazy run on the left wing.

The trialist scored her fourth and fifth at the end of the half, heading home a Biggadike corner and tapping home from close range shortly after.

Camden Town Women Second XI 0-3 Real Bedford Women

Camden Town put out a different lineup in the second half and provided a tougher test for Bill’s side.

The Pirates quickly established another lead when Leyla O’Brien, whose pace caused problems for the hosts throughout, cut the ball back to another trialist, who tucked it home from inside the box.

O’Brien was the provider once again in the 30th minute, as she laid it back to Chiara Meola, who slotted the ball past the goalkeeper from close range.

With two minutes left, the Pirates made it three when Puddick’s low cross found the same trialist, who completed her brace.

Bill’s defence stood firm and secured another clean sheet to get pre-season off to the perfect start.

The full women’s pre-season fixtures will be released soon.
