Real Bedford Held to a Draw at Home

By Louie Truman

Real Bedford settled for a 1-1 draw at home to Quorn in the Southern League Premier Central. Ben Stevens gave the Pirates a one-goal lead, but Zak Goodson scored to give the Reds a point.

It only took ten minutes for Rob Sinclair’s side to open the scoring, with Conor Tee laying off a perfect ball to Ben Stevens, who calmly curled it into the bottom right.

The Pirates had chances to double their lead, including when Allen managed to get past defenders, but he fired his shot just over the bar. Despite this, Quorn managed to score the equaliser through Zak Goodson, who scored a great goal which came from an incisive Quorn counter attack.

Minutes after the equaliser, Allen broke free with a driving run, but the Quorn defence reacted quickly to halt the attack. Just after this, he burst forward again, and this time his pressure earned a corner.

In the 28th minute, the Pirates came close with Weyman having a headed shot on target, which was cleared off the line by Quorn. Rob Sinclair’s side kept pushing before half-time and were unlucky not to find the back of the net. Conor Tee was a standout player, showing plenty of creativity and consistently creating chances.

Second Half

The second half was well balanced to start with, both sides creating multiple chances. In the 60th minute, the Pirates came close with both Watkins and Allen having efforts blocked. In the 70th minute, an excellent save from the Quorn goalkeeper kept Allen out again. Just minutes later, the visitors came close, but a brilliant block from Ward stopped a dangerous effort.

In search of the winner, Rob Sinclair made his first substitution, which included Josh Allen being replaced by Joey Evans. Shortly after, Archie Jones was replaced by Jack Davies, changing up the formation.

Real Bedford and Quorn kept pushing for a late winner. There were three minutes of added time, but neither side could find the breakthrough.

Next up for the Pirates is a home game against Banbury United on Tuesday, 25th November. Come down and support the Pirates. Get your tickets here.
