Conor Tee threatened early with two promising runs, although both were halted by offside flags. Stourbridge then took the lead inside the opening nine minutes when the ball reached Pavey in the area and he curled a first-time finish home.
The Pirates responded through Josh Allen, who twice made progress into the box without finding the finishing touch. Archie Jones produced an important sliding clearance at the other end before CJ Kiala forced the visiting goalkeeper to tip his effort over.
Real Bedford continued searching for a route back. Drew Richardson delivered a promising pass that nobody could reach, while Tee’s dangerous cross narrowly evaded Allen in the 34th minute.
Two minutes later, Jones’ first touch set up Allen, whose near-post attempt was saved. Jones subsequently fired over before Tee won a free-kick approaching half-time, but the resulting effort failed to trouble the visitors.
Second half
Craig King was called upon immediately after the restart, saving from Verma to keep the deficit at one. Allen then fired over as the Pirates renewed their pursuit of an equaliser.
Josh Setchell replaced Kiala and quickly contributed, crossing for Tee to force another save. Stourbridge blocked the rebound, and the following corner brought an effort wide.
Real Bedford came close again midway through the half when a flowing move ended with Allen being denied. Moments later, Sam Collins’ shot prompted appeals for handball inside the box, but no penalty was awarded.
Jack Morrell replaced Jack Davies before the Pirates suffered another frustration in the 72nd minute, when Jordan Ponticelli’s effort was cleared off the line.
Stourbridge remained dangerous on the break, with Pavey shooting wide after a three-on-one counterattack. Callum Kane and Elliot Simmons replaced Mensah and Jones as Real Bedford sought fresh impetus for the closing stages.
The visitors threatened a second before the Pirates mounted a final push. A vital save and another defensive block denied Real Bedford in the 90th minute, while a succession of added-time corners kept Stourbridge under pressure.
The breakthrough never arrived, leaving the Pirates empty-handed after an evening in which their persistence ultimately went unrewarded.
Next up for The Pirates is a trip to Worcester City on Saturday 31st October.
