REMEMBRANCE Sunday

As we come together for Sunday's fixture, we also remember the service and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in conflict, and those who continue to serve.

ABOUT THE FAWNL CUP

Sunday’s first-round tie was originally scheduled for 1st November but moved back a week because of Middlesbrough’s Women’s FA Cup commitments.

Following the group stage, 32 teams qualified for the Cup knockout rounds, with a place in the last 16 now at stake.

The Pirates reached this stage with a perfect group campaign, beating Northampton Town 5-1, London Bees 4-0 and Tottenham Hotspur PGA 3-0. Those results secured nine points from nine, with 12 goals scored and just one conceded.

The tie must be decided on the day. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, two 15-minute periods of extra time will be played. If the teams remain level, a penalty shootout will decide who progresses. There is no replay.

OPPOSITION FOCUS

Middlesbrough sit 10th in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division with seven points from nine matches. Their league record stands at two wins, one draw and six defeats.

Boro have found momentum in their latest outings, however. A 1-0 league victory over Hull City on 28th October was followed by a 2-1 Women’s FA Cup win away at Huddersfield Town on Sunday, giving the hosts consecutive victories.

Middlesbrough returned to the third tier after winning the Division One North title in 2024/25. They followed that promotion with a fifth-place finish in the Northern Premier Division last season, establishing themselves at the higher level.

Their League Cup campaign has also brought positive results. Boro topped their preliminary group unbeaten, drawing with Durham Cestria before beating Sunderland PGA 5-0 and Chester-le-Street Town 2-1 to reach the knockout stages.
