Real Bedford Signs off the Season with a 2-0 Win Away to Winslow United

Real Bedford rounded off the campaign with a well-worked victory at Winslow United. The Pirates prevailed 2-0 with two second-half goals to maintain their unbeaten record away from home - the only team to do so out of the 732 teams in the English football pyramid.

Despite winning, there was little to separate the teams in the first half, as both struggled to create chances. Real Bedford took 34 minutes to register their first chance of note, where a long ball over the top found Jordan Brown, who managed to battle past the Winslow defence and get a shot away on a tight angle which was just wide of the post.

An Archie Culley solo run from midfield created the next opportunity for the Pirates, but the Winslow defence again held firm.

Despite having most of the possession and territory, they could not find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. However, the highlight of the half came off the field as the young Winslow United Ultras were in full voice, striking fear in the Real Bedford opposition and supporters.

Second Half

The Winslow ultras were silenced early in the second half as The Pirates came out with a more clinical edge for the second period as the game opened up. Three minutes into the second period, a long throw-in from Lewis Burgess proved difficult for Winslow to deal with in the area as the ball ricocheted off of multiple players before finding the back of the net via the boot of Luke Knight who toe-poked the ball over the line to claim his 12th goal of the season and get the Pirates off the mark.

Chances were soon flowing. A great pass from Archie Culley found Jordan Brown out wide; however, the Winslow defence blocked his effort before troubling the goalkeeper.

Brown continued to cause panic as he created a similar chance for Kevin Owusu, who failed to get a shot away in front of the goal keeping the score line at 1-0 as the game headed into the final few minutes.

With moments to go, Real found the second goal. James Ducket floated the ball over the Winslow defence to Jordan Brown, who drove upfield before squaring the ball across the face of the goal for Tom Hitchcock to fire home into a vacant net, allowing The Pirates to secure three more points and maintain their unbeaten away record, finishing their outstanding season on a high.

That is the season over, keep an eye on the website and social media for our upcoming pre-season friendlies.
