Real Bedford Hit Three at Banbury to Secure Third Win of the Season
The Pirates made it three wins from three matches with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Banbury United, as Ponticelli, Morrell and Allen all found the net.
In the early stages, Banbury came close to finding the back of the net, and they managed to capitalise in the ninth minute, scoring their third chance of the game. Aaron McCreadie was the goal scorer; he won the ball back with some excellent pressing before keeping his composure to finish past King.
Following the early goal, Banbury continued to apply pressure. Cartwright did well as he made an important header clearing a dangerous cross from the hosts.
In the 20th minute, Jordan Ponticelli scored the equaliser. A brilliant switch found Allen in space, and he picked out Jordan with a low ball across the area, leaving him to apply a great finish.
The Pirates looked to build on the goal, and they were unlucky not to go ahead. Morrell’s first touch took him beyond two defenders before he had an effort towards goal. The goalkeeper made a good save, but Allen reacted quickest to the rebound, but was unable to find the back of the net.
In the 38th minute, Stevens put a good ball into the box which was headed clear, and Josh Allen had a shot which went just wide following some good build up play. Following the two minutes stoppage time, the first half ended 1-1.
Second half
Just after the break, goal scorer Ponticelli had a shot on target, but the keeper made a good save. Ponticelli continued to look dangerous; he also had an effort which was cleared off the line.
In the 63rd minute, Jack Morrell put the Pirates ahead. Ben Stevens whipped an inviting delivery into the area, and Morrell got up to head Real Bedford into the lead.
Rob Sinclair’s side managed to dominate possession and create multiple chances. Conor Tee had a shot which was tipped just over, and Allen had an effort which was blocked. However, Josh Allen managed to find the back of the net to make it 3-1.
Allen pounced on a loose ball, took a moment to steady himself and calmly guided his finish into the far corner. During stoppage time, Tee had a shot which went just wide. The game ended a convincing 3-1 to the Pirates.
