Melis Mehmet Joins The Pirates
Real Bedford Women can confirm the signing of talented midfielder Melis Mehmet, who has signed from QPR.
Mehmet spent her youth career at Arsenal, where she was part of the academy and under-21 setup, playing as a fullback. In October 2021, at age 17, Mehmet joined London City Lionesses on loan from Arsenal, which gave her senior-level exposure.
Following her spell at London City, Mehmet joined Watford, where she unfortunately suffered an ACL injury in January 2023. Melis spent nearly 21 months recovering before making a return to the pitch, against QPR.
After her spell at Watford, Melis then joined QPR, at the start of the 25/26 season. Mehmet played ten games for QPR this season, making a real impact. Melis managed to score four goals in QPR’s 6-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the National League Cup.
Melis Mehmet is primarily a central midfielder as of her most recent appearances at QPR. Earlier in her career, particularly during her youth and academy days at Arsenal and her loan to London City Lionesses, she was listed as a fullback/right-back, showing positional versatility.
Mehmet will bring a playing style which should suit Charlie Bill’s side. Mehmet’s creativity in midfield and ability to support defensively will add valuable tactical flexibility, giving the team both a reliable outlet in possession and the work rate needed to track back and maintain control in key moments.
On joining, Mehmet said:
“I’m really excited to join Real Bedford. It’s a great opportunity for me to continue developing and have a positive impact straight away. The club has real ambition and I’m looking forward to contributing to what the team is building here.”
Welcome to the Pirates, Melis.
