Logie Strikes in Added Time to Secure Another Dramatic Win

By Will Murray

Real Bedford Women secured three points in their first Group L match in the FAWNL Cup, thanks to a 96th minute winner from new signing Chloe Logie. The 20-year-old scored a brace as the Pirates secured another dramatic 2-1 victory on the road.

Charlie Bill made five changes to the starting lineup from Sunday’s opening day victory at AFC Wimbledon. Still, the Pirates were in confident form throughout the first-half, dominating the hosts.

After a cagey opening to the game, Real Bedford were in front after 19 minutes through Logie. Biggadike released a powerful effort from 20 yards, which was impressively saved by Sophie Shults. The Cambridge shot-stopper also denied Logie from the rebound, but the new striker tucked home with her second attempt to give the Pirates the lead.

The opener kicked Real Bedford into gear, and they created a host of chances before the break. Sofia Stovold and Leyla O’Brien both came close, but saw their efforts go narrowly wide.

Logie then had a big chance to double her tally in the 36th minute when O’Brien picked her out with a perfectly weighted cross from the left wing. Shults denied Logie from point-blank range, though, keeping the hosts in the game.

Second Half

The U’s improved after the break, and two minutes before the hour mark, they were level. Four minutes after coming on, Mia Richards was played through by Jade Bell before rounding Erica Meale and slotting into an empty net.

The goal forced Bill into four changes, with Milly Hayes, Amber Gaylor, Breon Grant and Issy Bryant coming on in search of the winner.

Chances were few and far between, with Biggadike’s dangerous corners looking the most likely route to goal.

When Gaylor’s left-footed strike was dragged wide in the 94th minute, it looked like the game was petering out to a hard-fought draw.

Logie had other ideas. In the 96th minute, another pinpoint Biggadike corner was not dealt with by the Cambridge defence. The ball eventually fell to the 20-year-old, who blasted past Shults to secure a second consecutive added-time victory for the Pirates to begin the 2025/26 campaign.

In his post-match interview, Bill said:

“Full credit to the group. We speak a lot about the togetherness and the identity we want to build.

With this side, you always feel there is one more moment, one more set piece. It builds the momentum for the week. When you get a three-game week, scoring two late winners is the perfect way to continue that momentum.”
