Real Bedford Women are seeking a motivated and committed Assistant Sports Therapist to join our Women’s First Team Medical & Performance Department for the upcoming season.
Competing in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division (Tier 3), this is an exciting opportunity to work within an ambitious football club, supporting a high-performance environment where player welfare and performance are at the heart of everything we do.
Working alongside the Lead Sports Therapist, Beth Adams, coaching staff and wider multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality medical provision throughout the season.
Role Details
Department: Women’s First Team - Medical & Performance
Location: Bedford (Training & Matchdays)
Reports To: First Team Manager
Contract: Part-time, Paid
Role Commitment
Successful applicants will be expected to attend:
All first team training sessions (currently Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during July and August, transitioning to Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from September)
All Sunday fixtures
Occasional midweek fixtures
Additional medical and rehabilitation sessions where required
The Role
Working alongside Lead Sports Therapist, Beth Adams, you will support the delivery of medical care across every stage of the injury management process, including pitch-side medical cover, injury assessment, rehabilitation, return-to-play planning, player monitoring and injury prevention.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your experience within an ambitious women’s football programme while working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team committed to delivering the highest standards of player care.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Provision
Provide pitch-side medical cover for all first team training sessions and fixtures.
Assess and manage acute injuries, including emergency care where required.
Deliver pre-activity taping, strapping and treatment.
Prepare and maintain medical equipment and supplies.
Injury Management & Rehabilitation
Assist with injury assessment and clinical decision-making.
Deliver gym and pitch-based rehabilitation programmes.
Support return-to-play planning and injury prevention initiatives.
Medical Administration
Maintain accurate medical records and injury surveillance.
Assist with player availability reporting, screening and physical testing.
Maintain medical stock and equipment.
Multidisciplinary Working
Work collaboratively with coaching and performance staff.
Communicate player status and rehabilitation progress.
Contribute to a professional, player-centred Medical & Performance Department.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must hold:
A degree in Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation or Physiotherapy.
Current membership of the SST, BASRaT or CSP.
Applicants must also have:
FA Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) qualification as a minimum.
A commitment to obtaining (or currently working towards) the FA Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF) qualification if not already held.
Previous experience working within football or elite sport.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
A full UK driving licence and access to their own transport.
Availability to attend all required training sessions and fixtures.
Desirable
FA Intermediate Trauma Medical Management in Football (ITMMiF).
Experience using athlete monitoring systems such as STATSports.
Knowledge of return-to-play testing and performance monitoring.
Experience working within women’s football.
Experience in female athlete health and performance.
