HASHTAG HAND Pirates THIRD DEFEAT OF THE CAMPAIGN

By Louie Truman

Real Bedford Women endured a frustrating afternoon as Hashtag United outplayed them, resulting in their third defeat of the campaign.

Before kick-off, Hashtag were required to change into their warm-up kit due to a colour clash. As the shirts had no numbers, it made it difficult for our team to identify and name each player during the match.

The game began as an even contest, with both sides sharing possession and creating early openings. The visitors had the first real chance of the game in the 21st minute, and they managed to capitalise a minute later to take the lead.

The Pirates responded well to going 1-0 down, with the team testing the Hashtag keeper in the 30th minute and a shot going just wide. Charlie Bill’s side kept searching for a way through Hashtag’s defence, which led to Issy Bryant scoring, but it was disallowed for an offside in the buildup.

The Pirates went into the break 1-0 down, needing to find a way to turn the game around.

Second Half

However, Hashtag had a much brighter start to the second half, quickly finding the back of the net to extend their lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute, as their midfielder chipped Meollo from 20 yards out.

The game went on to be end-to-end, with Real Bedford pushing forward in search of a goal. The hosts made a triple substitution in the 62nd minute, with Issy Bryant, Rhianne Rush and Nicola Puddick being replaced by Chloe Logie, Sophie Byrom and Milly Hayes.

During the final stages of the match, goalkeeper Meollo was called into action and made a couple of important saves. Dom Edwards’ Hashtag nearly made it three with a chance that hit the crossbar in the 89th minute.

Despite the Pirates pushing hard, they couldn’t break through, and the game ended in a disappointing home defeat.

Next up, Real Bedford Women face Burnley away in the FAWNL Cup Round of 16 on Sunday, 9th November.
