Sam Cartwright Signs For Real Bedford
Real Bedford are delighted to announce the signing of Sam Cartwright. The 24-year-old joins after spending his last four seasons at Southern League Premier Central side Spalding United.
Cartwright signed a long-term professional contract with Peterborough United in 2017 after impressing during loan spells at King’s Lynn Town and Leatherhead.
The defender had further loan spells at St Ives Town, Grantham Town, Kettering Town and Oxford City between 2018 and 2021, playing in the National League North and South.
After the expiration of his contract at Peterborough in the summer of 2021, Cartwright left having made two senior appearances in the EFL Trophy.
The centre-back signed for Spalding United in September 2021 and made over 100 appearances for the Tulips. He was part of the squad that won the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands title in the 2023/24 season.

On joining Real Bedford, Cartwright said:
“Delighted to be here. The club has an exciting project and great ambition for the future, which I’m buzzing to be part of. Looking forward to a successful season.”
Rob Sinclair said:
“Sam’s got a great mentality – he’s honest, hardworking, and really driven to improve, which is exactly what we look for in our players. He’s a strong, intelligent defender who reads the game well and brings real presence at the back. He’s comfortable in and out of possession and we think he’ll be a really good addition to the group.”
Cartwright will join Rob Sinclair’s squad for pre-season, where we will play six games across 21 days in July and August. View the full pre-season fixture list here.
Welcome to the Pirates, Sam
