Girls Football

About Us

After a successful first season working alongside the Real Bedford team, we have strengthened our relationship by changing our name from Bedford Girls and Ladies to Real Bedford Ladies.

We have been impressed with the structure and ambition of the club and believe that a closer relationship will lead to more success for our first team, more opportunities for young girls to play football and improve the standard of coaching and competition.

History

We have in excess of 50 years experience in the management team of developing Girls and Women's Football. The Club was founded in 1996 as part of the boys club West End FC but It soon became apparent that the objectives of boys’ and girls’ football was very different and we wanted to focus on the needs of the girls and so Bedford Ladies and Girls Football Club was born.

When our girls reached open age, and were too old to play youth football, we formed our first ladies team which quickly won promotion through the County and Regional leagues to the Eastern Region Premiership, tiers 3 of the Women's Pyramid.

In 2013 we won a £126k Lottery Grant to help refurbish Allen Park, our home ground, where we are shared stakeholders with Cricket, but for the last season we have played our home games at McMullen Park, where the mens first team play.

In 2014 we won promotion to the FA Women's Premier League Div 1 which is tier 2 of the Women's Pyramid. We have also entered our Reserves team into the FAWPL.

This season we have 20 teams, 18 youth teams from under 8s to under 18s plus, our Ladies Development and First Team, and we involve players from age 6 upwards. We also have partnerships with several local schools where we run after School Coaching and three Wildcat centres. We are very proud that one of our Wildcats centres were selected to be in the Women’s Cup Final parade at Wembley.

We group train twice weekly concentrating on not only having fun but also in developing skill, promoting a healthy lifestyle, improving fitness and wellbeing. Our aim is to develop girls to play at the highest levels within our Club.

Parents are encouraged to get involved and this gives the Club a unique family atmosphere.

The older girls are encouraged to act as mentors to the younger ones and to take up coaching, refereeing and to run teams themselves.

The Club is run by volunteer club officials, coaches and parent helpers. We are a Charter Standard Development Club and are fully affiliated with the Bedfordshire FA.

We are passionate about Girls and Women's Football and the development of players.

Our aim is to develop our own players through our youth system to play at the highest level in our Ladies First Team.

In 1999 when we separated from the boys club we were very keen to gain our own Charter Standard which we achieved, the same year.

To comply with the FA Charter Standard all our Coaches are fully qualified not only in Coaching, but also in First Aid, Safeguarding Children and enhanced CRB checked. All these standards have to be kept updated annually.

In 2006 we were proud to achieved Charter Standard Development Club status which is a higher standard.
