THE OPPOSITION
Peterborough United have enjoyed a perfect start to their FAWNL Division One Midlands campaign, winning their first five games. In this time, they have scored 25 and conceded only four.
Jake Poole, who was announced as the manager in May 2024, guided the club to a third-place finish last season and will be keen to go one better in the 2025/26 season.
In the FAWNL Cup, Poole’s side have lost their opening two matches, meaning they are out of the main competition. Despite this, they know that a win on Sunday could move them up to third. This would put them in contention to qualify as one of the 20 best third-placed teams for the National League Plate knockout stages.
FAWNL Cup Format and Group Permutations Explained
We have been placed in Group L of the FAWNL Cup, alongside Cambridge United, Norwich City and Peterborough United.
There are 22 groups in total, with the group winners joined by the 10 best runners-up in the first knockout round that starts on Sunday 19th October. The remaining 12 runners-up and the 20 best third-placed teams will compete in the Plate knockout stage.
The group permutations for Sunday’s game are as follows:
Win against Peterborough = Group winners/qualified for 1st knockout stage
Draw against Peterborough = Group winners/qualified for 1st knockout stage
Lose against Peterborough = We are three points ahead of Cambridge United and Norwich City, who play each other at the same time. Our goal difference is +3, while they both have a goal difference of 0, meaning a three-goal swing is required for us to finish second and risk dropping down into the Plate.
